All Downtown Victoria is within walking distance of the port. Try the Royal British Columbia Museum Empress Hotel area, great chocolates Rogers, a walk around the James Bay and see the eclectic old homes. If you work bus schedules I would have time right out of the Butchart Gardens if it's a ways out. Craigdarroch Castle is not far from downtown. If it's a sunny day, finding a place to eat outdoors and relax for some time. Beacon Hill Park is located near the center of the city too. I'm sure you have maps and brochures on the ferry.
