Most older people who have pets treat them as children. Of course, you do not need a person to do that, but households without children mankind children actually have this on all fours.

In addition to providing companionship, unconditional love and a calming effect, the larger animals may also provide a sense of security for the elderly. Its also been shown that people who have pets tend to live longer. Pets and animals, as we all know, has responsibilities. Sometimes these responsibilities are more difficult in the elderly and maintenance of your pets may cause problems. The rising cost of vet bills and the ability to transport their pets in many very real issues are not handled.

Several cities in Colorado veterinarian on population surveys that offer discounts to older people caring for animals, and those making or home visits or provide some type of transportation assistance and help others. In Fort Collins, the principal advisory board has received a grant to start mobile veterinary service for the elderly, called Elder Pet Care. What great idea! Seniors are charged on a sliding scale for veterinary services performed in house. The program is now independent in ten years.

Some systems transit, such as City of Loveland, CO are also on board that allow pets to ride in the boxes. Transport Systems in Boston, Toronto, Seattle and San Francisco, to allow the dogs of the leash to get to the bottom, and ferries in some of these cities.

I think all these programs deserve to be duplicated in the United States. The next time you're at your vet, why not ask if they are involved all the programs that offer discounts or pet care mobile for the elderly. After all, it never hurts to ask!
