Plot
In 1988, Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal), a bright teenager, has been seeing a psychiatrist because it seems to go through puberty particularly painful. His mother worried about him after dinner, her sister suggested that he has not taken his medication. Later that night (02 October) is Donnie awakened by a voice and down as if sleepwalking when he meets Frank (James Duval), a man in a bunny suit threatening. Frank said that in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds, the world will end. While outside, an engine plant Donnie reaction chamber.

A car is approaching assailants scared, but deviates grandmother's death to avoid standing in the road and goes straight through Gretchen. For the car, Frank pulls out and starts screaming Donnie, who raised the gun stolen from his father and shoots the right eye of Frank (the rabbit lesion seen "threat" Frank took off his mask).

As the house begins to collapse, we see his mother in his bed as the massive jet engine had just minutes earlier, fell from the plane carrying his mother and sister, accidents through Donnie's room.

In the theater version, it is again on 2 October. Donnie is once again on his bed, having possibly time travel to create an ontological paradox, where the future I took the place of her past love. This time Donnie returned to his bed, where the film starts, had followed a strange voice, as he walked out and met with Frank. Writer / director Richard Kelly does not questioned the validity of personal interpretations, but expressed his own theories in the additional comments on two DVDs, and several other interviews.
According to Kelly and philosophy of Fiction Time Travel, at midnight October 2 to 1 Tangent Universe branches of the main universe at the time called your room Donnie Frank immediately before the appearance of the engine, Jet engine defective. The inherently unstable Tangent Universe will collapse in less than 28 days and take the first universe with him if not corrected. Closing the Tangent Universe is the duty of the recipient's life, Donnie, who exercises supernatural powers to help in this task.
Those who die in the Tangent Universe (and would not have died otherwise) are handled dead (Frank, Gretchen). Frank, at least, is also given certain powers that are capable of understanding subtly what is happening and has the ability to contact and influence the recipient of life through the construction of the fourth dimension (the water). Donnie Darko has its first screening at the Sundance Film Festival January 19, 2001, and debuted in theaters in the U.S. October 2001 to a lukewarm response. 2001 Richard Kelly won with Donnie Darko "Best Script at the International Film Festival of Catalonia and the film critic for San Diego society. Donnie Darko also won the "Audience Award" to the best movie at the Fantasy Film Festival in Sweden. The film was nominated for the best "movie" in International Film Festival of Catalonia Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
Donnie Darko 2002 won price "special" Exhibition of young filmmakers at the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror films. The film also won the "Silver Scream" at the Fantastic Film Festival Amsterdam. As Kelly was nominated for "Best First Feature and the first stage" with Donnie Darko, Jake Gyllenhaal and is nominated for "Best Actor" Awards in Independent Spirit.
