Hockey in the American South?

Who else agrees that hockey should be taken out of the American South where almost no one cares, yes there may be a team in Atlanta where there a millions of people but if only 1,000 are interested its not worth it, I think teams need to go back north, i mean phoenix? come on, put a team in Manitoba, Quebec, Winnipeg, Hamilton, and in the US Hartford and Seattle, places that would want a hockey team, maybe the nhl wouldn’t have problems with money if they put teams where people would go

So we should eliminate teams like Tampa Bay, who won Lord Stanley’s Cup in 2004 and the Carolina Hurricanes who won it in 2006, or the Anaheim Ducks in 2007? The Dallas Stars won in 1999. That is pretty far south. Is New Jersey too far south? They won in ‘95, ‘00 and ‘03. Maybe even an original 6 like Detroit who won in ‘97, ‘98, and ‘02? I mean, Michigan’s economy is in the toilet, so maybe we should just yank the 81-year-old team right the out of the league. And since you mentioned Atlanta, your “if only 1,000 are interested” – their average attendance so far this season is 15,450 people – about 3,000 less than those attending a game in Detroit – but still 15x higher than your predictions.

Winnipeg had a team for 20 years. The Jets were in the NHL from 1979-1996. They moved to Phoenix (you know, the Coyotes). The Quebec Nordiques also joined the NHL in 1979 and . . . . well they moved to Colorado and became the Avalanche in 1995.

BTW – Quebec has *another* NHL team in Montreal. Maybe you’ve heard of them . . .
