What is the going rate for a contractor (hourly)?

live on the West Coast, I have curiosity to know the big cities (As in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, etc) are seeking a contractor and I have two very different estimates. we are considering a major renovation.

Usually they do charge by the hour, but by work. But if you do, it would be more than $ 35 or $ 40 the same time, PARTICULARLY IN california. What is exactly load time? If you pay $ 40 an hour to go to Home Depot for $ 5.00 per card? Because let me tell you, I was in Home Depot and Lowes and just found what you need, facing the islands that content, and long lines, I spent almost two hours to get a piece of $ 10.00 Drywall. I'm from Missouri and an average of $ 30 – $ 50 Time at work (if not charged per hour) I'm doing work in Maryland and the burden is about average here of $ 65 / $ 75 per hour with ease, and they told me I'm being very conservative. The properties here are 3 times the cost of the property in Missouri as its more expensive labor and to continue the rent. Maryland is the East Coast so I know the west coast is in the same way. general rule, a GC can get up to 40% of project cost, and where the employer is something worth its worth it! ok, I believe this is a big difference between new construction and renovation, remodeling is SOOO much harder (I remodeling 97%) are working around you, your children, your dogs, we have to clean every day gets care what we do to maintain our standard of music and to be especially we touch, and SOOO many more falls compared to being in an isolated house, and even worse with havign to the 1000 questions about "should not" be? "Or what you're doing, etc etc etc. Or do constant monitoring, I'm not happy because they always seem to question his steps to do something and not finished. Do not get me wrong, I do not mind a bit of teaching, but I do not charge per hour, but by work. Even tried several times to be a thearapist. If you want to save money do two things, being your own contractor and a shop at Sams Club. Some contractors hire only 20-30% of the subs and see work, not "even get a commission. So what the contractor G.? the true definition of center of gravity is a person who hires and supervises subcontractors production (publishers, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, etc) Do you have to do all the work? I do all my work, I do not "hire subcontractors. And the GC is responsible to bring them back home if that happens? say the leak starts crackign plaster or ceiling? Will it be the trackign down, missing work and dealign with paperwork? I do all the work, when it occurs a problem when I'm called, I'm the one who made the mess in his trackign home, I'm the only one who has to schedule your time. So when you get estimates, the general rules are: be at least three quotes, compare apples to apples get all the registered devices device colors in writing! in the budget, get a timetable for completion of work, I get the above date details, see the references and experience. Call to ensure safe its assets, obtain tax exemptions for their work and get all receipts for goods (mainly for warranty work is the device, equipment breaks down) before payment is made. There are so many things to do, but you have to do your homework. The Internet is a wonderful tool, use and enjoyment. Remember that 70% of my job is enter and fixing problems with the work of other contractors, or continue where they left off after leavign with customers' money. So limit your deposit, stick to it. It is best to obtain the materials and pay, or pay for them and let the book (but you can still fly with materials never come back) good luck
