Exciting new research conducted by Robert S. Neuropsychologist Wilson's disease Rush Alzheimer's Disease Center in Chicago, suggests new ways of reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease as we age.

– "The study found that a cognitively active person in old age was 2.6 times less likely to develop dementia and Alzheimer's disease is not a cognitively inactive person in old age.

– "Wilson, the study also found frequent cognitive activity during old age as a library tour or attend a play, was associated with a lower risk of mild cognitive impairment, a transitional stage decline between normal aging and dementia, and less rapid in cognitive function. "

– "If you want your mind to stay healthy in his years gold, do not worry, be happy.

In summary, stress management and exercise are both essential in the brain, according to recent studies. In articles above have also cited the important role played by nutrition and exercise.

Now they should not expect magic. Just found an article Brain entitled Best PC Games for the Elderly to delay Alzheimer's disease. We see this confusion often that the title is based on any clinical research. The article mentions some programs that we have spoken many times, as postulated Science and MindFit, and others who do not have because we have not found any published science behind, and as Dakim MyBrainTrainer. And there are more programs: what about Happy Neuron, Lumosity, Spry Learning and Registration captain. Not to mention Nintendo's Brain Age.

Some of these programs have real science that, at best, shows how some specific cognitive skills (such as memory or attention) can be trained and improved, regardless of age. This is a very important message that has not been filtered through many brains out there: we now know as the programs computer can be very useful for cognitive skills training, better than other methods (paper and pencil, classroom, just "daily life").

Now, any program can make any claim that specific delays / prevents Alzheimer's disease beyond general statements physical and learning slows the progression of Alzheimer's disease (Hence the imperative of lifelong learning) and mental stimulation as well as other lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise therapy and stress can help build a cognitive reserve that may reduce the likelihood of problems. Programs may be able to delay the onset of some symptoms, but do not yet know how to slow the disease. And there is evidence that a particular program is better than other in order to delay the disease. Or better to learn Chinese, or playing the violin, too.

Fortunately, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Alzheimer's Association have joined forces to launch the initiative in brain health. We are convinced that research is beginning to accumulate and lead efforts to delaying dementia. At this time, in our opinion, we should look into the programs off the shape of the brain as useful tools for training and developing skills specific auditory processing either in the case of raising the Science, a variety of them to MindFit, Cogmed working memory, peripheral vision and others IntelliGym through. We can improve our quality of life, productivity and mental faculties. All these tools probably contribute to reduce the likelihood of developing Alzheimer's disease and other dementias (and things that I personally safe and learning new skills as often as I can, and use of these tools is that), but that should not be the main reason why people use them because it is an indirect relationship at this time.

For more information, National Institute Aging provides an excellent article on Alzheimer's disease can be prevented?. We offer advice and a checklist on choosing SharpBrains physical conditioning program appropriate for your brain.

In short, all the learning and practice brain! Long live the lifestyle healthy, such as stress management, good nutrition and exercise! But please, take complaints related to Alzheimer's disease that companies can taken with a grain of salt.
