How often came home from school?

So I want to go to Seattle Pacific University next year, but I live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I would travel home for Christmas and return home during the summer as well. Is that enough? My parents would prefer more, but I'll be tied FRO species and realize that it is my decision, so that is not crazy or anything. Suggestions?
