The stuffed bunny on the sidewalk, a love that didn't last, the ugly
duckling, old behaviors, childhood dreams. That mitten you dropped
somewhere, your first best friend, the 80's (before they came back). An
alien pod baby, your family, the slow kid. Whether it was advantageous
or tragic, with resolution or unbeknownst to us, we've all left stuff
(or someone) in our wake; and most likely, we know what it feels like
to have been left behind at one time, too.

"Left Behind" captures various aspects of what being left behind
entails, interpreted by each artist with personal experiences coloring
his or her work. The idea is pretty cool, artists hang a few pieces of work for the month, and at the end of the show the public gets to take it home for free! Can't ask for more than that, right? The free art will only be available during the party at the end of the show on February 2nd.

It sounds like they already have a number of artists with submitted art but have an open call for submissions. You can drop off stuff at the Cafe on Sunday Jan 6th from 2pm - 5pm and Monday Jan 7th from Noon to 1pm.

The Wayward Cafe is in the U-District at
901 N.E. 55th St.

Don't miss this one!

The Belmont

The Belmont's send-off was an amazing event. The mood was both electric and somber at the same time. On one hand, there were a lot of people enjoying the art and just being around each other. On the other hand, sobering knowledge that this space would soon be destroyed to make way for more condos. The room installations were nothing short of amazing, ranging in styles as diverse as the artists themselves. The hallways were also plastered with tons of local artists' works. Paste-ups, stickers, spray paint, detailed paint, sculpture, pictures... you name it and it was on a wall somewhere in the house.

You can see tons of photos from the event by using this flickr search, by visiting The Belmont pool, and the Seattle Streetart / Graffiti / Stickers / Posters pool on Flickr.
